Confidence is Key!

Fitness and being the “perfect” size is a big issue right now and seems to be growing. I say “perfect” because to me, everyone’s ideal size is different. Everyone has different goals.

I decided to post this blog today in order to let people know how hard it is to be “perfect.” This is not to discourage anyone but to simply open eyes of people who want that Victoria Secret’s model body or (for my manbugs), to e strong and buff like pro weight-lifters or something. To let my readers know that it’s okay to want to be healthy and fit, but it’s also okay to have a “not so perfect” figure as long as you are comfortable and confident!

To start this off, I will tell you my story.

When I graduated high school in 2011, I weighed 117 lbs which was about 5 lbs under what I should’ve been. I ate though and didn’t care what I ate, when I ate or anything…

I also played soccer and had practice every day for an hour or so during the week, plus games…sometimes even on the weekends. I think it’s safe to say I got my fair share of good exercise.

Anyways, I started college the same year I graduated and my eating habits didn’t change, but my exercise did. By my junior year, I weighed about 150 lbs, people always tell me I didn’t look like it, but to me, I did. Anyways, that was about 9 lbs over what I should’ve weighed.

One day around Christmas time, my entire family decided that all of us could use to drop a few pounds. At the beginning of 2014, my family and I started exercising 5 days a week, eating healthier and lighter but also not depriving ourselves if we wanted a treat here and there. Between all of this, I lost 25-30 lbs which put me in healthy weight range.

Now, towards the first part of 2015, I still weigh 120 lbs, have kept weight off and everything…However, I still sometimes see myself as being bigger. I have an issue with bloating and am currently trying to figure out why, but because of this issue, I feel uncomfortable and sometimes like I don’t even want people looking at me…I feel like they see what I see. In my eyes, I do everything I should…I eat healthy, no fast food, I don’t drink a lot of soda, I stick to water, coffee and tea and exercise 5 times a week for at least an hour each day.

As I look back on things now, I was more confident when I weighed 150 lbs because I wasn’t concerned about anything. Trying to stick with eating healthy and exercising when you feel like it’s not helping is extremely hard and my struggle is constant, it is very rare that I get relief. Currently, I am considering lactose intolerance because it runs in my family or digestive issues… I really to the point of I don’t know what to do anymore.

My point here though is that I’m not fat, I am healthy, even though I sometimes don’t feel like it. Keeping tis in my head is my biggest challenge right now and I want inspire other people who may feel the same way that it’s okay, everyone goes through their own struggles.

Personally, I think curves are beautiful and there are all different shapes and sizes.

And if you feel good in your body and have that confidence, then I admire you and I hope that you never let someone else take that confidence away from you! It’s a hard thing to earn back.

Thanks for reading Ladybugs and Manbugs 🙂 and want you to know that all of you are beautiful/handsome in my mind!

Stay confident! 🙂

Tip: The photo above is my weight loss progress. May I was 150 lbs and October I was 120 lbs.

Moral for Today: You’re really not promised tomorrow!

Hello Bugs! I went through a small, yet, traumatic experience the other day and decided to share it with everyone as a way of letting my readers know that you really don’t know what can happen. It’s very true that you don’t know when it could be the last time you may talk or see someone.

On Monday, March 16th, 2015, my mother and I were casually walking into a Wal Mart. Upon getting out of our car, we see a car flying down the aisles of the parking lot. As the guy went by us, my mom proceeds to yell out “stupid,” which I wouldn’t expect any less from her. We paid him no other mind and continued walking to the entrance. Right before walking inside, we see the guy again manically driving around the lot. This time, however, he proceeds to drive on the sidewalk and attempted to run over two girls walking in front of a few shops. He also almost hit the building in the process and then proceeds to back up on the sidewalk going about 50 miles an hour which lead to him almost hitting the Wal Mart building.

After that he sped off through the parking lot and then left. At this point, everyone was extremely shocked and freaked out. My mom called the police to report him and found out someone else had turned him as well.

During the moment he was speeding all around after attempting to basically commit murder, all I could think really was oh my goodness, he’s going to kill someone, a child, and at any moment, he could come running on the sidewalk where my mom and I are standing and we may not be able to get out of the way fast enough!

It was a very frightening experience. At this time, I do not know if he has been caught or if he’s still speeding around.

This experience really showed me that sometimes people really are lost and need guidance. It also made me see even more that nobody is guaranteed tomorrow or the days after that…

I just want to make sure that everyone knows to let people know you care about them and always be aware of what’s going on around you.

I know this was a short post, but thanks for reading Ladybugs and Manbugs!

Be safe!

Top 10 Horror Movies (Part 2)

Since this is part 2 of my top 10 horror movies list, I will start off with number 6. If you’re reading this, be sure to check out part 1 so that you don’t miss any good films 🙂

  1. Ghost Ship *** (3)

This movie is a few years old, being released in 2002, however, it i definitely one of my favorites.

The storyline is about a group of people, explorers really… who hunt for abandoned and sunken ships and treaures out in the ocean. They run into a guy in a bar one night who knows of their work and has found a boat that he thinks they might be interested in. While they are skeptical of the job, they accept but te guy insist that he go with them and also gets a cut of whatever it is they might find in the depths.

As in most plots, everything weird starts to present itself once they find the abandoned boat they were looking for. As each of the crew members are picked off one by one, a frightening twist is revealed with the help of a probably unwanted and unlikely visitor.

While this movie doesn’t keep you on edge, it does have surprises you didn’t see coming.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes flicks that you have to figure out as you go along.

  1. I Spit on Your Grave **** (4)

There are two versions of this movie. One is older being made in the 70s, the other was released in 2010. I have seen both and personally think they are both good, but if I had to choose, the 2010 ersion is better as far as graphics go since it’s newer.

A basic summary of this without giving away too much is a woman decides to stay out in a cabin in the middle of no where in order to write a book (she is a writer). Her thoughts are, of course, it’s going to be peaceful and quiet and a perfect place to get her work done and relax along the way. However, once she gets out there, relaxation is far from what she recieves.

She begins being tormented by a group of redneck boys who don’t take no for an answer. Their sick torture “game” is the entire first half of the movie. Warning: it is very graphic!

The second half is really the reason why I added this movie to the list. However, I will give you another warning…this half is even more gruesome than the first. The reason is because the traumatized girl shows her backbone and gets her revenge on the boys who made part of her life hell and let me say…she gets them good!

Special Hint: This is supposed to be based on a true story.

  1. Evil Dead ****(4)

Like I spit on Your Grave, this movie is a remake of a 1970s version. The storyline for both movies is pretty much the same, but of course, the 2013 version is better graphics wise and has a better quality.

A group of friends stay in a cabin owned by one of their families. The whole reason they go is an intervention program for one of the kids, so of course in the middle of the woods seems like a perfect spot.

Upon arriving, everyone decided to go exploring. In the cellar of the cabin, they come across what appears to be creepy voodoo type items and books. While checking out one of the books found, one of the guys in the group accidently and unknowingly releases an unspeakable evil that begins to haunt and attack the group in different ways. It targets one person in particular which is the beginning of more gory horror.

I have both versions and I definitely prefer the newer version due to how more realistic it looks. I would recommend either movie as far as creepiness goes, however, if you’re looking for something with a little more adrenaline and gore, I’d say go for the 2013 version.

  1. 13 Ghosts ****(4)

13 Ghosts is a bit of an older movie, being release in 2001, but I still find this movie pretty freaky and weird.

It’s about a guy and his family earning an expensive home and EVERYTHING in it due to a death in the family. The guy’s uncle, who died, was a collector of unique and different things which includes spirits lurking around every corner.

As the name suggest, there are 13 spirits in the house and when the family moves in, the spirits are not as welcoming as the family would hope. A crazy twist is that the family can only see the spirits through these special glasses and there’s not enough for everyone.

One the ghosts start to violently attack, the only hope for the family to get out alive is to use the glasses and fight the spirits off to the best of their abilities.

For me, the scariest parts are when you don’t know where the spirits are. Because of this, there are ghosts popping up when you least expect it.

I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who likes a few adrenaline rushes during movies and to those of you who just like to be scared a little.

  1. Dead Silence ****(4)

The legend in this movie is based around an old woman (Mary Shaw) who is a ventriloquist. Once she dies, her legend and dolls live on in a not so good way.

The movie starts off with a couple who receives one of Mary’s “dummies.” Although the woman is unaware of who sent the doll, she displays it in her bedroom. After receiving the strange gift, something terribly gruesome happens in the home leaving the legend alive and a few others fighting to save theirs as they try to break the supposed curse.

As said earlier, parts in the movie are pretty gory, not too bad though. The creepy factor on the other hand is a seven on the scale. If you like thrills and chills and don’t mind a little blood, this movie is a good choice for you.

Grab some popcorn, a blanket and probably a friend or significant other to hide behind lol.

Now that I have shared my top 10 with everyone, I decided to add some honorable mentions too. These are movies that were good but just didn’t make the cut. Feel free to watch trailers of any of the movies listed. If you watch any of them I suggested, leave me comment and tell me what you thought!

Top 10: Skin-crawling Horror Films (Part 1)

For as long as I can remember, I have loved movies, my favorite genre being horror. I have a section of a shelf in my house that is literally nothing but movies and I continuously add to the collection lol. Some of my friends and family even call me a movie hoarder.

Anyways, as I said is my last post about American Horror Story, since I want to start writing reviews of movies, books and TV shows (might throw in some restaurants in there too), and since I love scary films, I decided to start off my review process by giving my readers a list of my top 10 horror movies that I would recommend to add to you watchlist, especially if you’re an adrenaline junkie like me. Due to how long this post will be, I decided to separate it into parts. This is part 1, so part 2 will be up shortly after this one.

This list consist of some of my all time favorites, in no particular order and a few extras at the end that I like to call my honorable mention list. I measure the scare factor by four main things…Creepiness, gore, storyline and how realistic it is. five * marks is the highest rating and one * is the lowest.

1. Scream! **** (4)

There are 4 movies total in this series and the storyline follows along with each movie. The plot is pretty much about psychotic people going insane in the small town of Woodsborrow and killing the towns people, including some of their friends. In each movie, there is one simple reason for the killers murderous spree, but each killer in each movie has a different reason than the one before. However, they all have one thing in common, their target and the main character in every movie, Sydney Prescott.

The reality to this movie is what really freaks me out. Lets face it, anyone can snap one day and go on a crime spree, you never know what can happen. To this day, I extremely dislike the killers costume in the movies, which is now a popular Halloween costume (Ghostface). A few years ago, due to someone wearing said costume, I ran and locked myself in a car and refused to come out! LOL at me!

2. Saw ***** (5)

When these movies first came out (7 movies total), I wanted absolutely nothing to do with these movies, simply due to lack of interest. After the first few movies were released and had been out for a while (playing on TV), I watched a few minutes of two of them simply out of boredom really. After just those few minutes, I made the ultimate decision that I wanted no part of them (extremely gory).

However, my opinion changed after I met my current boyfriends, Chris.

He had seen all of them and loved them! For the longest time, he was shocked that I had not seen them (being such a lover of thrillers). Eventually, after hearing “we need to watch them” so many times, I decided to watch them with Chris so we went to Wal Mart and found an entire box set of all the movies for only $10. Each weekend after, we would sit down and watch one and we finished every single one.

I literally have 2 words that could very accurately describe these movies, MIND GAMES!

The plot plays out in all 7 movies, each movie leaves a piece that fits into the next one. A man, who everyone calls jigsaw, creates traps and kidnaps people to test them in his creations. He does so in very clever way, the Annabelle is based around spiritual activity, as in ghost, demons and such. The storyline is abot a family being tormented and ironically enough, everything starts to happen when they come in contact with a doll, Annabelle. movies will give that away for you, as well as his reasoning. At the end of the first one, I was uterly shocked! I had no idea what was coming.

While these movies are not scary, they are pretty gruesome so I would not reccomend them if you are not a fan of seeing the insides of a human. After watching all of them and figuring everything out, I can honestly say I would watch them again.

“Don’t judge a book by it’s cover,” stands good here.

3. Annabelle *****(5)

Me being interested in spirits and loving horror films, I absolutely had to see this when it come out in theaters. Chris and I went to see it with a group of friends. Lets just say I was pretty worried within the first 10 minutes of the movie and it really kept me on edge the entire time!

I am a jumper too when it comes to being scared, so I defintely jumped a few good times and probably cut Chris’s circulation from his hand along with it lol. What I find a lot of newer horror films don’t do though is make your skin crawl or send chills through your body. Annabelle is one of the very few movies I’ve ever seen that did this. There were at least 2 instances during the film when I literally felt shivers goig up and down my spine!

In conclusion, lets just say I slept with a light on the night I watched it!

4. Sinister ***(3)

Sinister is a bit of a challenge to descrie but I will do my best. It is based around a family in which the father is a crime book writer. The family moves into a new home and weird things start appearing in the home. In the midst of the father writing his book, he uncovers disturbing things. As everything unfolds, the unthinkable happens.

I can definitely say I jumped a few times. The first time I watched this, I was in theaters with my best friend. In one instance, I could feel that something bad was about to happen and put my hands over my face. When something popped out, I jumped and smacked myself in the face causing my best friend to hysterically laugh at me in the middle of the movie. LOL at me!

Anyways, I would defintely recommend this to those who like to be creeped out and like a slght challenge as to what’s really going on.

5. The Strangers ****(4)

The plot of The Strangers is about a woman and a man (not too much a couple), who stay the night in a cabin owed by the woman’s family. Everything is fine unti a knock on the door is heard at a late hour in the night. The knock had come from a strange woman who claims to be looking for someone. Of course, they answer the door and everything starts to go south from there. The strange woman, along with others, begin to torment the couple in the cabin leaving them fighting for their safety as they try to escape.

The scariest part, to me, was the reason for all the thrills and chills, but I won’t give that away.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes a more realistic sense to scary movies.

Bonus Tip: Don’t try to watch this alone!

Since I decided to separate my list due to length, part 2 with my other 5 recommendations will be up soon!

Thanks for reading Ladybugs and Manbugs!

TV Show Update: American Horror Story

As I said that I would, I am making this post as a way of keeping my readers updated. In my first post about TV shows I watch, I stated that I wanted to start watching American Horror Story. I finally made the time to start watching it and have made it completely through the first season.

American Horror Story is a different type of show. Each season has a different storyline and so far, I have figured out that season one has absolutely nothing to do with season two. The only thing the two have in common is the actors who confusingly play different characters in each season.

With that, I will give an overview of what each season is about.

Season one is based around a house, which is the first thing you see in the first episode. There is a lot of weird history that comes with this house. When a family of three decides to buy the house, dark secrets begin to emerge and each episode has twist and turns that will shock you.

Personally, this season is very graphic, honestly, I would’ve skipped this entire season had I known it had no connection with season two. I bet your wondering why I say this, so I will go ahead and warn you. There is a lot of “adult” scenes which I don’t particularly care to watch, o if your like me, I suggest you skip this season altogether. Trust me, starting with season two will not confuse you.

I like season two a lot better even though there are still some sketchy scenes. It’s no where near as bad as season one.

Season two’s storyline is based around a mental institution, in fact, the full title of the show is American Horror Story: Asylum. The basic summary is the show tells the story behind the walls of the ward and shows what goes on to the patients behind closed doors. Each person has a story to tell and for the main characters, their stories as to how they got there are told in the first few episodes.

I’m only about 4-5 episodes in as of right now. Once I watch more, I will update everyone as I go along.

Tattooed and employed!

Everyone knows of the growing controversy over people who have tattoos and workplaces who don’t appreciate the art. I have personally never had an issue with this, however the one tattoo I do have is in a place that can be easily covered. I plan on adding to it soon but the addition won’t be too much extra to cover of needed.

I got my tattoo when I was 19. Granted that’s a good age, I think, but I was living with my parents and they were not in complete agreement with me wanting one, despite the fact that my dad has one. I had always told my mom I  wanted one and she never openly disapproved until the day I went to have it done. I let her know my entire game plan, what I was doing, where I was going, who I was going with, etc. Ultimately, after the fuss I got from both of my parents, they said it was my decision. Of course, wanting to do what I wanted, I stayed the night with my best friend and her and I went that night to have my tattoo done.

The next day is when it really got bad…my mom called and asked if I had gotten my tattoo which I said yes. When I plain and simple answered her, she went over the edge on me! She went on a rant fussing and yelling at me over the phone. Then she asked if I was coming home and I said, “If all you’re going to do is complain, then no I am not coming home.” By this point, my best friend’s mom had overheard everything and let me know that I was welcome to stay there if I wanted to.

This was the point of my mom’s rant that we went too far with me…  (referring my grandmother, whom I was extremely close to before she passed away in 2012) my mom says, “that woman is rolling over in her grave right now.”

I cried.. a lot and told her she didn’t have to say that to me (my grandma didn’t like tattoos on women). Needless to say, shortly after, I hung the phone and winded up staying with my best friend again.

The next day, I went home and my dad wouldn’t even look at me…my mom wasn’t there due to work but when she got home, both of them asked to see it. I showed it them, skeptically, and BOTH of them proceeded to tell me it looked good and throughout the healing process, my mom would help put lotion on it for me, considering it’s on my right shoulder blade. As she got more and more used to it, she later said that my grandma would’ve liked it too. She even knows about my addition plans and is ok with it and even wants one herself.

I have recently read a post about a mother who said her son broke her into a million pieces, or something crazy like that, by getting a tattoo.

My point here was to let people know that just because you may have a different opinion than somebody else, nobody deserves to be discriminated against or treated badly. I know from experience that things can be said and feelings can be hurt.

Parents, if you have children like me in any way, be grateful their making their own choices, even if you think it’s wrong. Love them anyway!

Thank you for reading Ladybugs and Manbugs 🙂

Book Review: House of Night Series

I have recently decided to post reviews on here for my readers. This includes books, movies, TV shows, etc. So as a starter for this, I have been reading a book series and decided to review them just in case some of my readers are looking for a good book to get lost in.

The House of Night series has a total of 18 books, however 6 of those books I don’t consider necessary reads. Four are considered a mini series or novellas and the other 2 are just extra really. However, I plan on reading all 18 and I am currently on number 5.

The books are written by Authors P.C Cast ad her daughter Kristen Cast. Kristen is also starting another series I believe. The first book was released in 2007 and the latest book, which is an extra, is coming out this year. You have to read the books in order to understand what’s going on and the first one, of course, is very important.

The series is about vampyres, no I didn’t spell it wrong, that’s how they spell it in the book. Anyways, the story is about a girl named Zoey, a typical teenager, who gets marked to become a vampyre, which Marked is the title of the first book. The series is centered around Zoey and all the challenges that is thrown at her after being Marked.

I’m not too far into the series yet and it’s technically labeled as teen fiction but I love them so far! I’m actually not much of a reader either but I read the first book in 4 days. I was instantly hooked with this series and every time I finish one book, I am ancy to get the next one. Unfortunately I keep running into the problem where Books A Million has not had paper back copies of some of the books. In my place of work, I would be allowed to read a paper copy during certain times but I keep having to put the books on my tablet through Barnes and Noble and I’m not allowed to have my tablet at work. I guess it’s a good thing though because I’d probably blow through them a lot quicker.

The books typically run around $9-10. And if you like fantasy novels like I do, I definitely recommend this series.

Weird world of (not) reality…aka dreams.

I was awakened early this morning from one of the weirdest, scariest, craziest dreams I have ever had! I was pretty startled when I awoke, but not just from the dream itself, but also from how I was woken up.

Let me first explain to my readers that I am a firm believer in ghosts and spirits of all kinds, including ones that aren’t so casper the friendly ghost. I have experienced things in my life that most people would not even think to believe, however I don’t typically share my stories due to the fact that I ate the “you’re crazy” or “that didn’t really happen to you” looks and/or comments I have gotten before. If you would like to hear some of my experiences, leave me a comment and I will share some of them.

Anyways, with that being said, I will explain my dream.

It started with me, my cousin Jamie and my grandma and grandpa in a house. In my dream, my cousin had began to explain to me that she had seen the spirits of two little girls and an old woman in the house. she explained to me that they were evil and hateful spirits and that if I see them, I need to run. She said first, you’ll see a little girl and it all goes downhill after that.

Upon standing in the kitchen with Jamie, my eyes caught sight of a small child, black and white who plainly walked passed me, I never saw her face. I remember exactly what she was wearing, her hair, everything.

I listened to my cousin’s advice and ran, but I ran to my grandma and sat down at her feet. Once again, the spirit of the little girl made herself known to me. This time, I saw her face. She had no eyes, they were just sockets, black and dark, almost like a skeleton. In my dream, I put my face in my grandma’s lap then out of no where, I felt this searing pain in my back left side. In my dream, I screamed in agony and dropped to the floor to find that I had been bitten by the little girl. The scary part out of this whole unconscious ordeal was that the sharp pain I felt in my side is what woke me up. My eyes popped open and I could literally feel teeth in my skin. I laid there with my back arched, breathing hard and heavy until I couldn’t feel the pain anymore.

As I said before, I was quite frightened and found myself frantically looking around my room as if I would find someone there. Of course I didn’t, so I comforted myself by turning on a small light and tried to get back to sleep.

I woke up this morning and looked at my side but there was not a single mark.

Now I have had some pretty weird dreams before but this is,by far, the weirdest and scariest.

I hope that you don’t think I’m crazy but if you do that’s okay! Thanks for reading ladybugs and manbugs 🙂 Feel free to leave some comments!

What a promise looks like.

The idea of a promise ring has been recently brought up in conversations between my boyfriend Chris and I. While we have not yet been together a year, neither of us object to the idea like some people would. Much like another post I made, some people would say we are moving too quickly and that a promise ring is not a good idea or we should wait… I believe this is because of what most people think a promise ring means.

I’ve always heard that a promise ring symbolizes that one is promising the other that they will get married one day (in general terms), however, I have discovered that that’s not always the case…that’s not the only meaning it carries.

I have learned of people getting purity promise rings and of mothers getting their daughters a ring that matches with hers or even fathers getting their daughters one as a symbol for love. I even have a coworker who received a ring for her 16th birthday then another for her 21st from her parents.

Promise rings can also be worn on different fingers depending on what they symbolize.

In Chris and I’s case, more than likely if he were to give me a promise ring, I would wear it on my left ring finger because we have discussed the possibility that we may marry each other one day. Which would be one reason he would give it to me in the first place. In our defense, we have known each other almost a year because we were friends before we decided to date. Also our one year will be coming up in the next few months. Anyways, to me some of the other reasons why I would accept a promise ring early on is because it could symbolize him always being there for me, always being supportive, encouraging and caring. Plus it will be a while before we actually decided to get engaged and later married so a promise would simply be like our way of expressing our love until that time comes.

Now, do I need a ring for that, no, but that’s how Chris is and of course it is a very sweet gesture. With that, I am not asking him to pay every penny on a promise ring if he decides to do that. I let him know early on that I didn’t want anything expensive. Recently, he has asked me to give him an example of something I’d like, which he knows, but he asked because I am different about jewelry, I love vintage things so I told him I would something that is unique and incorporates both of us somehow. He chose the color blue since it is my favorite and I chose a princess cut because he calls me his princess. There are a few other details but they would be hard for my lovely readers to understand without pictures 🙂 plus it’s a little early to give out some details anyways.

The point here was really to show you that it doesn’t matter what other people think or say. People are quick to judge, it’s how the world is now. I have learned that no matter what you do in the world, good or bad, people will talk and you can’t please everyone all the time.

When and if the time comes, I will gladly accept a promise ring from my loving boyfriend and wear it every single day very proudly! ❤
